I cannot stress sufficiently the importance of a Chamonix Guide if you're heading off-piste. Now just because you've heard all the bravado stories of skiers doing the Vallee Blanche with nothing more than their jeans and Bolles' it does not mean skiing the glacier is at all trivial. You just don't hear about the ones who did not come back.
Get a guide. They'll be equipped with emergency locator beacons, ropes, shackles, ice axes, pitons, have been trained to recognize avalance danger and emergency rescue.
...you must get a Chamonix guide...and please tip your guide well.
These guides are specialists in skiing and climbing mountains and you'll find a guide here whether you're an experienced off-piste skier wanting more challenge around Mont Blanc and the Alps or if you're a first timer in powder. Mountain Spirit knows where to find untracked fresh powder.
During the winter season, they focus on guiding and instructing skiing off-piste around Chamonix. All their guides have achieved the highest level of qualification for Mountain Guides, from the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (UIAGM - IFMGA), their International Peak Body. Their guides are multilingual and besides French and English, there will be guides who are able to speak German, French, Italian, Spanish or Swedish.
Instruction is offered for individuals, private groups including snowboarders and nordic skiers. As you will have read on our pages on Vallee Blanche, a guide is a must. I recommend this page on Vallee Blanche Chamonix from Mountain Spirit's website.
Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix
This is the largest and oldest mountain guides company in the world, having been established in 1821 to meet the increasing demand and interest in Alpinism, especially from the British. It was formed by local men who knew the Savoie area inside out and it continues to day to enjoy a reputation as a prestigious mountaineering association.
Chamonix is known as the "Death Sports Capital Of the World" being home to an array of dangerous mountain sports, and these guides will be able to help you with mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, guided day hikes and longer tours and ascending Mont Blanc.
Contact Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix to make a booking.
If you have a private party of skiers with only a few days skiing at Chamonix , it could be economical to contract a private guide dedicated to show you the best on offer at Chamonix, Megeve, Courmayeur and Verbier, to maximize the value of your Unlimited Mont Blanc ski pass.
They will also be able to arrange private transport as well so you don't waste time waiting and queueing for buses and trains.
