Chamonix really is beautiful and on your Chamonix Ski Vacation, the first thing that you'll notice are these lovely 3-D paintings or trompeil on public buildings in the center of town. They depict important characters in Chamonix's history of Alpinism.
Trompeil at Chamonix Mont Blanc
OK... you've read about Chamonix's reputation as the ski resort for an adrenalin fueled ski vacation.
Yes, it's all true, but just as true is the vast ski terrain suitable for intermediate skiers on the very long well groomed red and blue runs as well as the variety of nursery slopes in the valley and on the mountain pistes.
This is what makes a ski vacation at Chamonix suitable for families and groups of friends - it's a resort that is so enormous, there's loads of terrain that'll cater to the varying abilities from beginner to expert skier.
For the expert skier, Chamonix offers:
For the not so aggressive skier:
Chamonix has miles and miles of groomed red and blue pistes across all the mountains. You'll love it! There's loads of challenging runs for high intermediate skiers and lovely open sunny slopes for beginners wanting to stretch their new skills.
Check out just some of the ski regions:
Don't forget though, that the mid and lower levels of Les Grands Montets is sensational skiing and the pistes cut through the forests are just lovely at Les Houches.
...and of course, there's loads of terrain for intermediates at the co-partnered resorts in Italy and Switzerland.
Here are the sister resorts
There is nothing in the world quite like the ski adventure down the Vallee Blanche. This the White Valley and is the approach to the glacier, the Mer de Glace. This off-piste run is 17 km with a descent of 2800km to the village!
Now don't even think that this is a smooth easy ski down a lovely smooth glacier. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The glacier is ancient and cracked as it slides down the fall of the terrain. These massive cracks are the deep deep deep crevasses and that's why the ski guide will tether his group together in particularly dangerous areas.
You'll ski through ice towers, ski over snow bridges across the crevasses, have to get through fields of bumps while descending a distance that's greater than the height of mountains. In Australia, for example, the highest mountain is 2000km and the ski descent on the Valle Blanche is 2800km!
Intermediate skiers - you too can have this amazing ski experience. Just let the guide know and he'll take you down an appropriate route.
When you're in the center of town, where the beautiful people cluster, you can't help but also feel glamorous in this elegant classy resort. The retail experience is top end - Chanel has a store at Place Balmat and the Winter Clothing stores are just lovely.
Be sure to pack your cashmere and furs - this is just the basics for this vacation experience.
...But not everything's perfect...
and you'll need to plan a little to get the most from your Chamonix Ski Vacation.
