Tips About Courmayeur

Courmayeur, being just over the border through the Mont Blanc tunnel is convenient venue to head to just for variety or if conditions are not so great at Chamonix. Catch the bus from the Le Gare at Chamonix Mont Blanc, but be sure to book ahead for a seat. These days the bus fare to Courmayeur costs.

You'll find the terrain extensive and impossible to explore in one day. While there are challenging steep deeps at the tops, in general, Courmayeur presents excellent skiing for intermediates and high intermediates.

It does get busy at Courmayer - I suggest you catch the earliest bus. You'll find that when snow conditions are poor at Cham, bus loads of skiers head off to the other side of Mont Blanc - to Courmayeur.

Access is free to those on the Unlimited Pass, but you do have to purchase a seat on the bus.  Even at non-peak times, we've found the buses to be booked out about two days in advance, so it is a good idea to plan your week ahead on arrival and book your seat on the bus a couple of days in advance.

Courmayeur and Vallee Blanche

Just as you'll be keen on the Courmayeur weather report, the Italians likewise will check out Chamonix's weather before heading there via the Vallee Blanche.

Italians ski the Valle Blanche by accessing via the top from Courmayeur and then head down the mountain, turning a sharp right onto the glacier, the Mer de Glace. They then ski onwards towards Montenvers where the Vallee Blanch ends at the moraine field.  Like other skiers, the Italians catch the rack and pinion train down to Chamonix  then, onto a bus to return to Courmayeur.
