The enlarged map of the center of Chamonix Mont Blanc shows where the Hotel Chamonix is located relative to the Tourist office and to the Post Office. The main happening place is along Rue du Docteur Paccard, and that really is the main Town Center.

As you can see, the Hotel Le Chamonix is just a block away from the cinema, the casino, the high end retail stores, funky nightclubs, elegant cafes and restaurants. The Super U, the large supermarket is around the corner and there is an excellent bakery across the square from the hotel.

The Chamonix ski bus goes along Allee Recteur Payot and the main bus hub is directly behind the Tourist Office. We've found this is the most convenient stop to get the ski bus, as it fills up quickly within a couple of stops.

Anywhere around this center part of town is unsurpassed in location.

The hotel may be two star, but the friendly bi-lingual staff give it five star service.

"Super Value in a town that can be expensive."

Some tips about the Hotel Chamonix.

  • The rooms are cozy (read small) but perfectly adequate

  • Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and toilet

  • Some rooms have balconies

  • The best views are from the top floor - that's the fifth floor

  • BUT there is no lift. If lugging your bags is a concern, it's best to request a room on the lower floors

  • There's ski storage in the basement

  • The Hotel le Chamonix is older style, the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable.

  • Breakfast is available, but is relatively costly. It's cheaper to enjoy a pastry from the bakery right opposite, or stock up on fruit and breakfast goodies from the supermarket around the corner

  • The staff recommend the 15 e three course dinner from Alan Peru, a restaurant 5 minutes walk away.

  • The Hotel le Chamonix, being at the center, is close to just about everything including the train station, which is about 10 minutes walk and similarly to the Aiguille du Midi cable car terminal - about 10 to 12 minutes.
