How To Get To
Mountain Restaurants In Chamonix

Q

As a non skiing grannie, can I drive to mountain restaurants in Chamonix to meet the family for lunch etc. - Je from UK

A

Dear Je

Oh no, the restaurants on-mountain are accessible in winter only via the cable car lifts. You can purchase a one-way or return journey on the cable car to make a day viewing the just fantastic mountain scenery and have lunch on-mountain with your family.

For example, the return lift ticket from Chamonix to the top of Brevent costs 27.50 euros. It takes two lifts to get to the top - from Chamonix to Plan Praz then another cable car to the top of Brevent. The view here is magnificent but don't expect more than an expensive though decent snack at the top.

There's a larger restaurant at Plan Praz, which is mid -level on the Brevent slopes and the return ticket costs 15 euros.

Pedestrian sightseers are able to purchase daily access tickets to any of ski regions. Here's a link which shows where the mountain restaurants are located.

You'll love being in Chamonix as a non-skier. The shopping is lovely - the high end shopping truly is tres' elegant; you can go for walks in the forest; have coffee at a sun blessed  bistro in town, catch the free bus to explore all the villages up and down the valley, go by train to Annecy or to Montreux, there's the crystal museum and the ride on the Montenvers train to the ice caves. We did all the non-ski activities too and never got bored.

We found you could not help but feel elegant, sophisticated and beautiful here, simply because everyone here seemed to be just that!

I'm sure you'll love your time in Chamonix with your family.
