Where To Ski In Chamonix If you Have Only A Day

Q

Where would you ski in Chamonix If you are an advanced Intermediate skier, and enjoy a challenge but you only have one day or 1 1/2 days in Chamonix...where would you recommend skiing?

Hey Jeff,

Hi and thank you for stopping by our site, www.ski-chamonix.net.

You've asked where we'd recommend an advanced intermediate could ski if they only had a day or a day and a half at Chamonix.

The Les Grands Montets Cable car. If you only had a day to ski in Chamonix. I'd select this signature ski region.

If you like steeps, here's Chamonix's signature pistes:

If you are ok with moguls and black runs, there's no question - you'd head  to the top of Les Grands Montets and spend the entire day there. Grand Montets truly is signature skiing at Chamonix.  The blacks here are challenging steep deeps - steep and long stretches of it. There are also mogul fields and more so if there's not been enough snow so the slopes may not have been groomed.

Descending from the top of Les Grands Montets is satisfyingly challenging and hugely long, about a 2000m descent. Afterall it takes two sets of cable cars to head up that distance.

But if moguls and really long steeps are not your thing - at least not all day, there are loads of red pistes at the mid level of Les Grands Montets. Get off at the first cable car stop at Lognan and explore the terrain with subsidiary lifts radiating from here.

Here is our low down on Les Grands Montets:

You'll need a day lift pass:

Chamonix's daily lift ticket prices vary depending on the ski area visited.  Here is a summary of the daily lift ticket prices for one way and return.

See how the cost from Argentiere to Logan is half the price of the trip to the top of Les Grands Montets. Argentiere, by the way, is a village about 20 minutes by bus from the main town of Chamonix Mont Blanc.

Ski in Chamonix - Fun On Sun Blessed Pistes:

The other place which is a lot of fun is the Brevent-Flegere. This is a very pleasant ski region as it is south facing which means sun blessed slopes.  You could spend all day exploring the co-joint ski regions. There is a lateral lift that joins the two regions Brevent and Flegere. There are loads of red and blue pistes here. It's nicely groomed and very popular.

If you want tough/ challenging skiing, there are some black runs here including runs from the top of the Brevent Cable car with a steep mogul funnel.

This is our report on Brevent:

What a shame you won't have time for the Vallee Blanche - now that really is
something.

Wishing you a most awesome vacation!
